EIGHT EASY WAYS YOU CAN GREEN YOUR BUSINESS DISTRICT

While many businesses interact with their local government mainly to pay taxes and file permits, keep in mind that we can work together to help improve the quality of life in your business district. More trees, better lighting, clean sidewalks, well-maintained streets, graffiti-free walls – all will help bring more customers to your neighborhood.

 1. Plant Some Trees: Complete an online workshop or certify that a professional landscaper will plant and maintain the trees; submit your application; the City will deliver the trees.

Responsible Agency: Department of Water and Power

 2. Report Graffiti: Dial 3-1-1 or click here to make an anonymous request for graffiti removal.

Responsible Agency: Bureau of Public Works, Office of Community Beautification

3. Request a Bulky-item Pick Up: Old sofas, mattresses, and other items lying around deter potential customers. Request a bulky-item pick up next time and the City will pick it up for you.

Responsible Agency: Bureau of Sanitation

4. Report Illegal Dumping: Did someone illegally dump an item in front of your business? Dial 3-1-1 to report it and get it picked up.

Responsible Agency: Bureau of Sanitation

5. Install Outdoor Lighting: More light will make your district safer and more pedestrian friendly. Also, the lights we use are energy efficient. Pay a small flat, monthly fee and the Department of Water will install and maintain your new outdoor area lighting.

Responsible Agency: Department of Water and Power

6. Make Your Street More Pedestrian-Friendly: Notice a crack in your sidewalk, an alley that needs cleaning, an overgrown tree or other street maintenance issues? Submit a request for service.

Responsible Agency: Bureau of Street Services

7. Partner with the City on Sidewalk Reconstruction: To the take extra step in making your district walkable, you can partner with the City on a 50/50 voluntary sidewalk reconstruction partnership.

Responsible Agency: Bureau of Street Services, Urban Forestry Division

8. Request a Sidewalk Bicycle Rack: Increase mobility by giving your customers transportation options. Click here to submit a request for a sidewalk bicycle rack or call 213-972-4972.
